What you actually get
An item page at direct2app.com/item/your-slug carrying your icon, a 16:9 cover, your markdown introduction and your categories and tags, sitting among roughly 380 listings. The outbound link is a plain rel="noopener" with a utm_source appended, so the three dofollow links the free plan advertises are real ones.

How to submit to Direct2App

1
Sign in first
/submit redirects to /auth/login. Google and GitHub are both offered alongside an email and password form, so an account takes one click.
2
Fill the details form
Link, name, categories, tags, a short description, a markdown introduction, a 1:1 icon and a 16:9 image, all on one screen. An AI Autofill button sits inside the Link field; fill the fields yourself instead.
3
Choose a plan
Submitting the details creates the record and moves you to the plan cards. Free is "Submit to review"; the two paid cards publish immediately.
4
Take the badge snippet
Pressing Submit to review does not navigate. The button relabels to "Go dashboard and Wait" and a Verify backlink panel appears underneath with the badge code, in a light or dark theme.
5
Wait it out on the dashboard
The dashboard row shows Plan: Free, Status: Pending and Publish Date: Not published until an editor gets to it.

Gotchas

Both image slots cap at 1MB and enforce it, which a straight PNG export at the sizes they ask for will quietly exceed; you have to re-encode before either upload will take.
The badge code is not shown anywhere in the form. It appears only after you press Submit to review, on the same page and below the fold, so it is easy to walk away with a listing stuck at Pending and no idea what it is waiting for.
The free plan lists "backlink maintenance" as a feature, which means they keep checking yours is still there; the badge is a permanent fixture of your site rather than a one-time hoop.
The free plan says in its own feature list that it comes with no customer support, so the thirty-day review has no channel to chase it through if it stalls.
